Môreson | FYM Chardonnay | 2020
Môreson | FYM Chardonnay | 2020
This Chardonnay takes no prisoners - it had everyone wide-eyed at our first tasting as the rich butterscotch of the FYM consumed them as they consumed it. The grapes for the FYM (or Fox.Yankee.Mike.) come from a minuscule block next to the vineyard’s private airstrip which grows a clone (CY18) that isn’t found anywhere else in the world. Previously thought extinct, this low-yielding clone of Chardonnay was found thriving on the Môreson farm. The grapes from this 27 year old vine are barrel-fermented, with a full malolactic fermentation and aged on its lees in French oak (50% new) for 11 months with weekly batononage for the first 6 months. This is a Chardonnay that will stand the test of time if you want to lay it down.
Nose & Palate
There's a lot going on in this wine so we suggest decanting for 30 minutes and letting it warm up a few degrees if you’ve had it in the fridge.
Powerful butterscotch and marmalade on the nose which is joined by toasted nuts on the palate. Rich and mouth-coating, there’s a seamless balance between the fruit and oak on the palate in a way that’s hard to describe.
Pairing
A rich wine needs a rich pairing - time to bring out the lobster and load it with butter!

About the Winery
Môreson is a boutique wine farm sitting in the stunning valley of Franschhoek. We discovered Môreson when we were floored (figuratively) tasting their Mercator Chardonnay in South Africa. In fact it’s this wine that helped secure their winemaker, Clayton Reabow, the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award in 2018. Since then we’ve realised that Clayton works absolute wonders with this incredibly versatile grape. Oaked, unoaked, sparkling MCC, dessert wine - you name it, they do it with Chardonnay, and we can't get enough of it.
The Miss Molly label is named after one of the winemaker’s loyal dogs - a mischievous Weimaraner called Molly! The Miss Molly Bubbly has developed such a massive following over the years they now have to source more Chardonnay grapes from Robertson to supplement those grown in Franschhoek.
