Môreson | Mercator Chardonnay | 2017
Môreson | Mercator Chardonnay | 2017
This is not only the wine that got us hooked on Môreson, but it also helped secure it’s winemaker, Clayton Reabow, the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year in 2018. Inspired by Burgundy blending practices, the Mercator is a blend of three different Chardonnay clones farmed in their Franschhoek vineyard. Each vintage, the ratio of each clone included is meticulously selected to produce the best Mercator possible. It's crisp and creamy at the same time, having undergone a full malolactic fermentation and 12 months in French oak (40% new).
Nose & Palate
Tropical aromas of citrus and stone fruit mingle with notes of buttery brioche. The palate offers a full creamy mouthfeel with a beautiful balance of concentrated fruit and oak. Each sip lingers on your tastebuds begging for more.
Pairing
Pizza with caramelised onions, brie and apple. Pumpkin ravioli in a mild cheese sauce.
Accolades
4 1/2 stars (94 Points) - Platter’s 2020 SA Wine Guide | 93 Points - Christian Eedes
About the Winery
Môreson is a boutique wine farm sitting in the stunning valley of Franschhoek. We discovered Môreson when we were floored (figuratively) tasting their Mercator Chardonnay in South Africa. In fact it’s this wine that helped secure their winemaker, Clayton Reabow, the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award in 2018. Since then we’ve realised that Clayton works absolute wonders with this incredibly versatile grape. Oaked, unoaked, sparkling MCC, dessert wine - you name it, they do it with Chardonnay, and we can't get enough of it.
The Miss Molly label is named after one of the winemaker’s loyal dogs - a mischievous Weimaraner called Molly! The Miss Molly Bubbly has developed such a massive following over the years they now have to source more Chardonnay grapes from Robertson to supplement those grown in Franschhoek.
