Van Wyk Family Wines | Riesling
Van Wyk Family Wines | Riesling
We have been on the lookout for a dry Riesling with some Cape character since we opened Wine Impala. Apparently we couldn’t see what was right in front of us since Justin Van Wyk, the winemaker of Constantia Glen, had just started producing this outstanding Riesling under his own label. Sourced from old-vines in Stellenbosch, Justin has worked his magic to create some wonderfully layered depth and complexity by using 20% reserve wine from the previous harvest and a combination of oak and clay amphora vessels.
Nose & palate
The nose shows intense floral aromatics of jasmine and orange blossom with distinct lime undertones. The wine is textured and complex with a bright, crisp acidity that finishes in a long salivating finish.
Pairing
This wine has a bit of spice to it and we think it’d go great with some southeast Asian cuisine like chilli basil duck or a shrimp laksa.

About Van Wyk Family Wines
Justin Van Wyk creates absolute masterpieces as the winemaker at Constantia Glen, so naturally when we found out about his own label that he started in 2016 we were more than a little excited.
Justin cast his gaze outside Constantia and scoured the Cape Winelands for special vineyards that fit his vision to create honest South African wines that display a restrained old-world charm. His winemaking approach is gentle and non-invasive, resulting in wines that are pure expressions of the Cape. These are small batch wines that somehow still manage to provide incredible value, exhibiting the passion and modest elegance of a brilliant winemaker.
