Van Wyk Family Wines | Olivia Grace | 2020
Cape blends like this are one of the reasons we love the wines of the Western Cape. Just reading the blend the first time had us bursting with curiosity: starting with a Chenin base, it includes 36% Chardonnay, Riesling, Roussanne and Viognier. Only in the Western Cape, which has so many different micro-climates to grow different varieties in such a small region, could you find such a unique blend. We also love that winemakers like Justin Van Wyk are able to purchase these grapes from different farms and create blends which don’t need to follow any rules other than creating a brilliant wine - and he’s certainly done that here. The Olivia Grace (named after one of the winemaker’s daughters) is a medium bodied white that changes with every sip as each grape makes its appearance.
Nose & palate
Excellent balance of stone-fruit, citrus and floral aromas on the nose. The medium bodied palate is fresh yet well textured from the 7 months it’s spent on lees in old French oak, ending with a sublime long finish.
Pairing
Cape white blends are really food friendly wines - it’ll compliment almost anything like a selection of cheeses, seafood, curries and even roast chicken!

About Van Wyk Family Wines
Justin Van Wyk creates absolute masterpieces as the winemaker at Constantia Glen, so naturally when we found out about his own label that he started in 2016 we were more than a little excited.
Justin cast his gaze outside Constantia and scoured the Cape Winelands for special vineyards that fit his vision to create honest South African wines that display a restrained old-world charm. His winemaking approach is gentle and non-invasive, resulting in wines that are pure expressions of the Cape. These are small batch wines that somehow still manage to provide incredible value, exhibiting the passion and modest elegance of a brilliant winemaker.
