Le Bonheur | Prima | 2020
A wonderfully drinkable blend of Merlot (68%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (12%), from well established vines, averaging 28 years old). The Merlot provides a finesse and elegance, supported by the bold structure and power of Cabernet Sauvignon, while the Cabernet Franc lifts the blend with fragrant notes of lavender and dried herbs. Upon completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine was matured in 300L barrels for 18 months, with 65% new and 35% second-fill French oak.
Nose & palate
Raspberries, black currant and cherries on the nose, with delicate notes of dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied on palate, with a fine-grained tannic structure and a lasting finish. Complex flavours of cigar box, cherries, pencil shavings and ripe plums.
Pairing
This wine will sing when paired with grilled lamb chops or pork chops.
About Le Bonheur
Led by winemaker William Wilkinson, Le Bonheur expresses the deep heritage of South African winemaking from four main soil types across a variety of aspects and slopes of Klapmuts Hill, with some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in Stellenbosch.
Named by its French Huguenot owners in the 1700s, Le Bonheur translates to “happiniess,” and we think you’ll feel the same when drinking these authentic, full bodied, and classically-style wines.
