Hogan | The Galvanised Chardonnay | 2019
Jocelyn’s “The Galvanised” Chardonnay 2018 was one of our favourites on the first shipment and so we’re excited to now have the new 2019 vintage here, an ever so slightly lighter style than the 2018. The grapes were sourced from two sites across the Western Cape (as opposed to three in the previous vintage), 71% from Banhoek and 29% from Helderberg. After spontaneous fermentation and natural malolactic fermentation the wine spends 11 months in old oak barrels. For any Chemical Brothers fans out there - their tune, Galvanize, was the inspiration for the name!
Nose & Palate
On the nose you’ll get subtle notes of citrus and pear, along with a touch of oatmeal. The natural and fresh acidity on the palate lends to a cool mouth-feel while the creamy lees add depth, creating a harmonious wine from start to finish.
Pairing
Chardonnay naturally complements creamy, buttery flavours and textures. A mild chicken or vegetable currie with a buttery sauce would be a great match.

About the Winery
Hogan Wines is a small family business spearheaded by winemaker Jocelyn Hogan Wilson. After years working with various wineries, Jocelyn teamed up with her parents to take part in the winemaking revolution of shifting emphasis back to the farmers and focusing attention on small batches of wine.
Hogan selects grapes from vineyards around the Western Cape with ideal climates and soils for the specific varietals, and naturally produces wines with minimal interference. The result is a bottle of wine that contains a unique story of its vintage and showcases the best South Africa has to offer.
