Ataraxia | Chardonnay | 2018
Winemaker Kevin Grant employs an old, nearly forgotten, traditional Burgundian method to make this “black” Chardonnay. Rather than gentle pressing, the grapes are vigorously worked and aerated. Spontaneous and complete barrel fermentation, aged 10 months in 225L French (Burgundian) oak barrels, with 20% new oak. Truly a world class Chardonnay. 13.5% Alcohol.
Nose & Palate
Vibrant and spicy with creamy notes and a beautiful mineral acidity to balance the compelling intensity of the fruit.
Pairing
Sole meunière, corn on the cob, or a sausage roll.
About the Winery
Hogan Wines is a small family business spearheaded by winemaker Jocelyn Hogan Wilson. After years working with various wineries, Jocelyn teamed up with her parents to take part in the winemaking revolution of shifting emphasis back to the farmers and focusing attention on small batches of wine.
Hogan selects grapes from vineyards around the Western Cape with ideal climates and soils for the specific varietals, and naturally produces wines with minimal interference. The result is a bottle of wine that contains a unique story of its vintage and showcases the best South Africa has to offer.
