Ataraxia | Marroquin Cinsault | 2022

Ataraxia | Marroquin Cinsault | 2022

HK$210.00

For only the second time in the history of Ataraxia, Winemaker Kevin Grant is releasing small quantities of the Marroquin Cinsault. The first references to Cinsault (Hermitage) can be found in writings from French agronomist Olivier de Serres in 1600 using the synonym “Marroquin.” First introduced into South Africa in the 1850’s, this varietal (and a parent of Pinotage, together with Pinot Noir) became the most widely planted red grape variety in the Cape, before quickly being eclipsed by other varietals in the 20th century. A sublime and assured wine, the Marroquin 2022 seeks to explore the seductive, sleek side of Cinsault’s persona and contribute the ongoing Cinsault renaissance in South Africa. Wine spent 11 months in 225L French oak barrels (20% new). 13.5% Alcohol.

Pairing

About the Winery - ATARAXIA

Hemel-en-Aarde is Afrikaans for “heaven and earth” and the claim is justified. The estate sits on a particularly heavenly stretch of land beneath a lofty peak of the Babylon’s Tower mountain range. In addition to its unrelenting beauty, Ataraxia is home to some of the most spectacular terroirs South Africa has to offer.

In 2004, The Skyfields Farm was visioned into the Ataraxia wine label when husband and wife, Kevin and Hanli Grant and a few friends purchased this 47-hectare prime vineyard property.

Almost two decades on, we are associated with crafting wines of incredible finesse, balance and depth; wines that proudly hold their own on the international wine stage.
