Thistle & Weed | Brandnetel Chenin Blanc | 2022
Thistle & Weed | Brandnetel Chenin Blanc | 2022
The second Chenin to join the Thistle and Weed family. The grapes are sourced from a tiny 0.3 Ha vineyard of 40 year old vines in the foothills of Stellenbosch. The Brandnetel (or stinging nettle in English) gets its name from this tenacious yet humble weed that brings magic to fairy tales, protection in folklore, and vitality to soil. Visiting this vineyard perched on slopes overlooking Stellenbosch, reminds us that magic is woven into our lives from the soil to the glass. Check out the Duwweltjie for the winemaking info! 13.5% Alcohol.
Nose & Palate
Peach and stone fruit, pineapple and salty sea air on the nose. The palate is rich and more-ish, gentle oaking provides the stage for an intense citrus finish with a refreshing acidity. Perfect for aging or drinking now.
Pairing
The Brandnetel has the highest acidity of the three Thistle & Weed Chenins so we recommend assembling a charcuterie board with plenty of goat cheese which will contrast brilliantly with the acidity of the Brandnetel.

About Thistle & Weed
An independent collaboration between winemaker Stephanie Wiid and viticulturist Etienne Terblanche. Together, they set out to discover the best of the Cape’s hidden gems, intent on crafting honest natural wines that are made with a deep connection to nature and offer the most simple expression of the terroir from which they come.
They immediately gained critical acclaim for their Chenin Blanc in particular and now produce three different Chenins from three different old-vine sites around the Cape. Stephanie employs the same minimal intervention winemaking approach to produce pure, site-specific wines. Their wines are Afrikaans names for different thistles and weeds found amongst the vines grown in the Cape. Etienne and Steph draw parallels between thistles and weeds and the uncompromising tenacity and survival skills of grapevines.
