Rall | White | 2021
Rall | White | 2021
Considered one of the best white blends coming out of South Africa right now, winemaker Donovan Rall has sourced the grapes for this Chenin Blanc based blend with 28% Verdelho and 4% Viognier from seven vineyards across the Cape Winelands. Incredible complexity on the nose and palate, this vintage of the Rall White shows the highest-ever levels of acidity providing a mouth-watering snap. Each varietal was fermented and matured separately for 10 months in mostly seasoned French oak before being blended and bottled at 12 months.
Nose & Palate
“An infinitely complex nose with notes of dried flowers, pear, peach, citrus, apple, baking spice and white pepper. The palate is clean and focused, the acidity providing snap, the finish long and pithy. Precisely made but also somehow effortless, this combines great clarity of fruit with plenty of detail.” - Christian Eedes
Pairing
Some flavourful southeast Asian cuisine - think Banh Mi or sweet and sour pork.

About the Winemaker
Donovan Rall is an independent winemaker who’s been at the vanguard of the small batch winemaking revolution that has taken South Africa by storm.
After studying viticulture and oenology at the University of Stellenbosch and gaining winemaking experience in Europe and New Zealand, Donovan returned to South Africa and spent a vintage working for renown winemaker Eben Sadie. He developed a strong passion for the Swartland and the varietals that thrived in this warmer climate, eventually deciding to start his own label in 2008 with a focus on these grapes. Since then he's been making waves in the South African wine industry, producing extraordinary minimal intervention wines, vintage after vintage, and this one could be his best yet.
