Raats | MR De Compostella | 2017

HK$680.00

In 2014 Neal Martin from Wine Advocate said about this wine: "To sum up this wine in two words: world class. Ignore at own risk”. The formation of MR de Compostella epitomizes the meeting of two strong winemaking minds and an existing friendship between Mzokona Mvemve (the M) and Bruwer Raats (the R). They set out to achieve consistent, world-class quality wine every vintage and every year they have produced something truly out of our world.

A Bordeaux style blend of 43% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot. This 2017 vintage is one of the best on record and this bottle will definitely benefit from a few more years in the cellar before drinking if you have the self control. It will mature for 20+ years if cellared correctly.

Nose & Palate

Deep, dark and intense ruby colour. Blackcurrant and black cherry fruit with hints of violet, cedar and cinnamon. Rich and complex with mineral, blackberry fruit and dark chocolate on the finish. Harmoniously composed of the five Bordeaux varieties to ensure none dominate. This wine shows a consistent, linear flavour profile with a polished and well-defined finish.

Pairing

This one is simple; steak. Whether it’s a rib-eye, filet mignon or a well aged sirloin, it’s up to you.

About the Winery

For Raats Family Wines it’s all about two grapes; Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. Their mission to consistently produce outstanding quality wines from these two varieties has earned Raats a stellar international reputation. Raats wines have received glowing write-ups by esteemed wine reviewers such as Tim Atkin, Olly Smith, Matthew Jukes, Neil Martin, James Molesworth and Jancis Robinson.

In further pursuit of perfection, founder Bruwer Raats formed MR de Compostella with long-time friend and winemaker Mzokona Mvemve. The result has been a wine that has achieved consistent world-class quality, vintage after vintage.
