La Petite Ferme | Verdict | 2018
La Petite Ferme | Verdict | 2018
This Bordeaux style blend leads with Cabernet Franc paired with Cabernet Sauvignon. With 14 months in oak barrels (35% new), it’s well rounded with a bit of spiciness. Drinking well now with cellaring potential to 2027+.
The Verdict name originates from a family member (a former judge) of La Petite Ferme’s winemaking team, who was known to drop by during the winemaking and query the product with a familiar refrain: “So, what’s the verdict?”
Nose & palate
Violet & cherry perfume leads into a broad pallet of lively cassis fruit and pliable tannins full of energy and flavour.
Pairing
We love the Verdict with karoo lamb or a nice beef filet.
About La Petite Ferme
Having worked at wineries in France, California and Australia, winemaker Wikus Pretorius brought considerable expertise to the cellar when he joined La Petite Ferme in 2015.
The cellar harvests fruit from the 17 hectares of vineyard surrounding the boutique hotel, but Pretorius also works with selected vineyard sites across the Cape winelands, allowing unique terroirs to add complexity to his range of remarkable single varietal wines.
“Franschhoek is a lovely valley, with wonderful vineyards, but there are so many great vineyard sites out there that we felt it best to tap into the diversity of the Cape winelands,” explains Pretorius. “But regardless of where the grapes are from, finesse and elegance are the hallmarks of all my wines.”
